Saxenda (liraglutide) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is used as an injectable treatment for obesity and for weight management in adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher or who have a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related medical condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. Saxenda works by mimicking the actions of the hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate glucose metabolism and appetite. It promotes satiety and weight loss by slowing gastric emptying and increasing insulin secretion.
